Longwood AOS

Welcome to Longwood Amateur Operatic Society’s website

Longwood Amateur Operatic Society was formed in 1924 at the Longwood Mechanics Hall, where we performed and rehearsed for many years, hence our name, connecting us to the local community. Our venues have changed over the years to Venn Street Arts Centre (1987) and then on to the Lawrence Batley Theatre (1994). We were the first amateur operatic group to perform at the LBT, when we staged The Pirates of Penzance in 1994, at the newly opened theatre.

We moved back to the Longwood Mechanics Hall in 2017, where we performed and rehearsed until, due to the amazing fundraising efforts of our members, we were pleased to be able to move back to the newly refurbished LBT in September 2021, with our production of Into The Woods, following the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have performed over 90 shows during our 98 year history and are looking forward to our Centenary in 2024, where we can celebrate the history of our wonderful society. Longwood AOS has always been known as a family society, with several generations of the same families taking part in our productions over the years, whether on stage or off.

Please contact one of the society members, use our social media outlets, or contact us at longwoodaos@gmail.com

Our next show is Ghost The Musical, which will be staged at The LBT Huddersfield 10th-14th October 2023. We are holding an open evening on 24th January and auditions will take place w/c 20th February 2023.

Thank you to each and every one of you that supports us – keeping amateur theatre alive.
